What we do, and the lines we do not cross

Cina Decor Ltd is registered in England and Wales for painting (SIC 43341) and other building completion and finishing (43390). Its registered office is 171 Kingston Road, Teddington TW11 9JP.

Lead. Lead-based paint was not fully banned from sale for general decorative use in the UK until 1992, so paintwork in older buildings may contain it. Disturbing it badly — dry sanding, dry scraping, burning or hot-air stripping — releases lead dust and fume, and the Control of Lead at Work Regulations 2002 apply to work liable to expose anyone to it. Where lead is possible, surfaces are prepared by wet methods, debris is contained and the area is cleaned down properly. This matters most in homes with young children or a pregnant occupant, and we will tell you when it applies.

Asbestos. Asbestos-containing materials are common in buildings constructed or refurbished before 2000 — textured coatings, insulating board, floor tiles and more. Under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, work that may disturb it requires specific precautions, and higher-risk work may only be done by a licensed contractor. If we suspect asbestos, we stop, we do not disturb it, and the material is referred for survey. We are not an asbestos contractor and hold no licence to remove it.

Gas and electricity. We do not carry out gas work of any kind: by law that requires registration with the Gas Safe Register, which we do not claim. We do not carry out electrical installation work: notifiable work in dwellings falls under Part P of the Building Regulations, and we claim no Part P competent person scheme membership. Moving a radiator or a socket is a job for the relevant trade and we will tell you so rather than attempt it.

What we claim, which is very little. This website claims no trade association membership, no accreditation, no competent person scheme registration, no guarantee or warranty scheme, no insurance, no awards, no qualifications and no client references. If any of those exist, ask us and we will give you the details to verify them at source. Quotations are written, itemised and state their exclusions, and work is agreed in writing before it starts. Waste from a job is removed by a registered waste carrier or left for the householder’s own disposal, as agreed in the quotation.
